About the venue
Housed in the old Co-operative Society Northern headquarters, Discovery Museum is one of the largest and most popular visitor attractions in the North East.
Designed by Oliver, Leeson and Wood in 1899, the Great Hall is a magnificent wood panelled and tiled room. It has beautiful lanterns added in the Art deco era and wonderful decorative metal arches. The hall has a built in stage of 9.23m x 3.79m which is an ideal location to operate the LCD projector, screen, lectern with microphones and full PA system from. The wonderful huge windows all have full black out blinds on them. Your delegates can arrive for registration with a desk just inside the door and then move to back of the hall where we can serve refreshments. There are many other options to hold receptions and small dinners in the museum. A popular reception area is around the Turbina which at one time was the fastest boat in the world. We can also hold events in other popular galleries such as the Science Maze and The Story of the Tyne.
