About the venue

Glassonby Old Hall is a Grade II listed sandstone long house which has four double bedrooms and three bathrooms & a ground floor cloak room.

It has two wood burning fires and a massive open plan great hall as well as a separate sandstone walled snug. It has an open front garden as well as a gated rear garden which opens directly from the kitchen back door. Elk Cottage & Jenny's Croft each have two ensuite bedrooms one with a bathroom and the other with a shower room so you have flexibility regarding bathroom choices. The master bedrooms in these cottages have five foot antique beds and the second bedrooms may be arranged as either a six foot bed or two twin beds depending on your preference. They each have a living room, dining room area and a dine in kitchen, a cast log burning fire and a rear sandstone terrace and lovely raised beds which open up to a lawned area then behind onto a recently planted orchard. Glassonby is a quiet village & there are great walks in the area. We have posted some routes on the website under the "walks, hikes and drives" section beneath "Great Days Out & Activities." My absolute favourite is along the River Eden from Dale Raven down towards Little Salkeld. It is spectacularly beautiful down there with some old hermit caves carved into the sandstone cliffs about a mile or so along the walk. One of England's largest Druid stone circles - Long Meg and her Daughters - is also close by & is owned by our family. It is a fun place to spend some time climbing on the rocks & there is an old legend that people can never count the same number of stones twice around. There are two great local country pubs in the next village called The Fetherston Arms and The Crown which we recommend unreservedly for their food and ambience. Reservations are recommended on weekends as they are very popular with the locals including our family! Glassonby is about 3 miles from Melmerby and about 12 miles from Ullswater & the Lake District. We also have several catering options from providers we know well. I can recommend all of them wholeheartedly and they would be happy to work with you on menus etc. Unlike some of the bigger hotels and venues, we do not build in any sort of mark up on catering or wine corkage. We also offer a corporate entertainment package at Hause Hall Farm via our cousin's Cumbrian Adventures activity provider and would be happy to help out with options for your consideration including clay pigeon shooting, giant zorb ball games, a Cumbrian Olympic sports session and archery.
