The Wood Norton

The Wood Norton

As the newest member of the Conference UK team, I'm learning about venues all over the country. This week, a group of us were guests at The Wood Norton near Evesham - and what a wonderful time we had. Centrally located, it's easy to get to from wherever you're travelling. Driving up to the front of the hotel is like arriving at somebody's home - somebody's incredibly posh home... At first sight it appears quite small and welcoming, but it's deceptively spacious with 50 bedrooms and a good mix of meeting rooms. I'm not sure what I liked best about the place; the fact that modern elements had been sympathetically blended with the old, or its fascinating history as the home of the Duc D'Orleans and an early base for the BBC. Perhaps it's both - and more... If you're looking for a large scale corporate venue for a conference, this isn't it. That feeling of being in somebody's home continues inside. Pictures of former house guests fill the walls, along with some famous faces from the early days of the BBC. Beyond the main conference rooms and syndicates, there are lots of nooks with comfy sofas to do some informal networking or just relax after a hard day. I loved the attention to detail - like the crisp white cotton linen on the duvets and the fact that the waiters wore gloves (and I'm sure they were on roller skates because they'd glided in and out before I noticed my meal in front of me and my wine refilled!) From the moment we arrived to a warm welcome it was a great visit. Our bedrooms were stunning with fabulous views over the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Thanks to Katie and all her team for making us feel like VIPs.
